I graduated from King’s in 2018 with a BSc in Medical Physiology, receiving the McDowell Prize for achieving the highest degree mark in the department of physiology. I was awarded the Rob Clarke Award by The Physiological Society for my undergraduate research project, and subsequent undergraduate research fellowship, investigating the effects of pedalling cadence on skeletal muscle oxygenation in cycling.
Following my undergraduate studies, I worked as a research assistant at the Cardiovascular Clinical Research Facility (CCRF), University of Oxford. I was able to apply and further develop my physiology knowledge and research skills, working on a number of clinical studies. During my 2 years at CCRF, I developed interests in medical imaging and artificial intelligence and was trained in echocardiography. I was awarded Top Investigator by the American Society of Echocardiography for my ASE 2020 conference presentation and received the Radcliffe Department of Medicine Award for Excellence in recognition of my contributions to the department in Oxford.
In September 2019 I volunteered on the British Society of Echocardiography’s Echo in Africa project. This involved performing handheld echocardiography scans, screening for rheumatic heart disease, in primary school children around Cape Town, South Africa. Between 10 volunteers, we screened over 1000 children over 5 days. My report of the week was published on The Conversation.
My PhD project focusses on sensing central blood pressure (CBP) with advanced imaging and artificial intelligence technologies. The aim of the project is to equip cardiologists with a non-invasive and accurate measurement of CBP to reduce patient risk and aid disease stratification.
