After finishing my MRes in Experimental Neuroscience at Imperial College London, I did three years as a Research Assistant at King’s. This allowed me to understand the inner workings of clinical research in my field of interest and to identify the exact area I wanted to do my PhD in as well as potential supervisors. The MRC DTP iCASE programme offered me the opportunity to do exactly that: work in an exciting area with great supervisors, while having the flexibility to manage my own project. My PhD is looking at role of the gut-brain axis in depression and the mechanisms underlying the antidepressant effects of probiotics in a clinical population. In addition, thanks to the programme, I will get the opportunity to do an internship with my industrial partner, which I am looking forward to.
