Pathway 1+3

Cohort 2016

1+3 Student

In 2016 I was awarded a B.Sc. in Molecular Genetics at King’s College London, with a year abroad at the University of Melbourne. During my undergraduate course I became interested in cancer genetics and immunology and have completed a few research projects related to cancer biology.

Having been inspired by my experiences I wished to continue in scientific research through a PhD programme. I was looking for a stimulating environment promoting interdisciplinary development and dialogue between scientists, which is the vision of the MRC DTP programme. It provides a unique opportunity to learn beyond the expertise of a single research field.

The 1+3 pathway has allowed me to complement my background in cancer biology by a range of completely new skills and get insight into the fields of research I had not imagined to work in before.

Rotation Projects:

1. Investigating the potential of different Gallium-68 compounds in cancer imaging
2. Developing a tool for tracking a novel antibody based immunotherapy for melanoma
3. Elucidating the roles of proteins related to ESCRT-III machinery, important for cell processes such as cytokinesis, viral budding or cell migration
