I undertook a PhD in Professor Fiona Watt’s lab in the Centre for Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine. My PhD project was entitled “Role of distinct fibroblast and pericyte lineages in skin homeostasis and repair”.
I chose the DTP due to the wide range of projects, seminars and workshops which are available and allow me to gain a wide range of skills and experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the social aspect of the programme – specifically being surrounded by a large cohort of like minded people who supported each other. I enjoyed my PhD immensely as I was in a lab which was full of incredible people who were fun, friendly, and supportive and this led to me getting numerous publications and allowed me to really grow as a scientist. During my PhD I was also part of Only Connect by Illuminations which is a SciArt collaboration between artists from Chisenhale Studios and scientists at KCL and Imperial which began in 2018 to explore how art and science can work together to communicate stem cell research to the public. An online exhibition was published in 2020. Since finishing my PhD I have become a postdoc in Professor Francesca Spagnoli’s lab investigating mesenchyme heterogeneity during human pancreas development.
