1+3 Student
I graduated from the University of Leeds in 2016 with a BSc in Medical Sciences. During my time at Leeds I carried out an 8-week final year research project into the role of reactive oxygen species and TRPM2 channels in cancer cell migration, and undertook an industrial placement year in the Immunoinflammation therapy area at GlaxoSmithKline in Stevenage.
I chose the DTP due to its wide range of projects, strong translational ethos and clinical links. I decided to do the MRes year as it offered me the chance to gain exposure to a variety of techniques and ‘sample’ different labs and projects before making a final decision regarding the PhD. So far this programme has provided me with experience in a wide range of research areas and multi-disciplinary techniques, and the workshops, seminars and career development aspects of the course have provided additional benefits. Within the DTP I am also a member of both the Social Committee and the Public Engagement Committee.
