1+3 Student
I chose the 1+3 DTP because I wanted the opportunity to work with a diverse range of excellent groups doing exciting and worthwhile research. So far, I’ve completed two rotations: one live-imaging basement membrane formation in Drosophila embryos and another investigating the behaviour of macrophages in response to perforations in the ear drums of mice. I’m looking forward to starting my third rotation where I’ll be studying contraction regulation in cardiac muscle. My favourite aspect of the DTP is the diversity of different projects and workshops there are to choose from, which have been very enjoyable and worthwhile. In addition to helping me figure out what I’d like to focus on for my PhD, I’ve received great training and gained valuable research experience.
Before King’s I completed an integrated master’s degree in molecular cell biology at the University of York. Before applying, my research experience included projects I completed as part of my degree and an 8-week summer project at York. I am 3rd author of a publication about the role of proteins IGFN1 and COBL in skeletal muscle myoblast fusion (DOI: 10.1016/j.yexcr.2020.112179).
