I studied Biomedical Science at Northumbria University in 2016 and did my Master’s in Biomedical Science in 2017.  My interest in mitochondrial biology and genetics really emerged from my undergraduate and postgraduate studies, where I worked on a few projects looking at mitochondrial biology and genetics, use of biomarkers and drug development.

My PhD project is “the role of mitochondrial DNA mutations and inflammation in adult blindness caused by diabetic retinopathy”.

I chose the DTP because it was a complete PhD programme, offering a lot of different projects (even though I already my mind set in one specific project!). There is a lot of support, workshops/seminars and social events.
